Day 1 - I'm a Hungry Girl

... who hates her husband at the moment. :(

What does he ask me just now: "So what would you want for dinner if you could eat anywhere you want?" He's trying to figure out where to go to dinner w/ a friend. *grumble grumble*

Anyways, today I'm hungry. It is the first day of the whole diet and exercise thing. I've been good today. Aside from the tempting bowl of leftover chocolates from Christmas at work (which I would normally just grab one or two everytime I walk through the kitchen), I've been feeling good about everything today. Have support from some wonderful people, so that's really exciting!!!

Here's my day in a nutshell:

1 1/2 cups of coffee w/ 2 packets of Equal and Cofffeemate

1 packet of lower sugar oatmeal and a 100-calorie pack of cocoa roasted almonds (which I think went bad...) for breakfast

A handful of grapes for a mid-morning snack

Lunch consisted of a Lean Cuisine Sesame Stir Fry, a non-fat light yogurt, and a diet coke (What... can't give up ALL of my vices!!!)

Mid-afternoon snack was a small apple

I came home and started the Your Shape program for the Kinect. Did the fitness assessment and some zen yoga. Wrapped up with the fitness games, which are a lot of fun. Felt good afterwards. :)

For dinner, I made a Cajun blackened grilled fish filet, steamed corn, and a salad w/ feta cheese, almonds, and light Balsamic Vinigarette.

Finally, I wrapped up with a whole-grain English muffin with 2 tbsp of peanut butter and a diet green tea.

WHY AM I HUNGRY??

  1. Britt - usually when I am that hungry I realize I am not getting enough protein. Maybe add eggs to your breakfast of oatmeal. Also I dont think those chocolate almonds are that great, I prefer normal ones.

  2. First of all... YAY BRITT!! I'm so proud of you for taking control and implementing a healthier lifestyle. After all, that's what it's all about. And I'm glad you're blogging your progress, what an inspiration!

As to why you're hungry: your body is still adjusting to the difference in caloric intake, as well as the difference in what you're eating, so it'll take a little bit of time for your metabolism to balance out and your body to feel full.

Something else to consider: are you simply feeling hungry between meals and snacks, or do you end the meals and snacks still feeling hungry? If the second choice is the case, you may be cutting out too many calories all at once. The point is to eat good foods until you aren't hungry anymore -- feeling malnourished is a bad sign.

    Keep it up, chica!! <3

  3. Because you acually did not eat enough during the day. If you decrease your calories too much too soon your metabolism will slow way down. You need more fuel in the morning. And remember water, water, water! great job of motivation for your 1st day. Keep it up.

  4. Thanks everyone for the feedback. It's so helpful!!! I agree, Tammy, that I definitely need more protein... that's something I'm going to have to figure out how to do better. I'm not a huge fan of eggs and/or beans... so that kinda puts me SOL.

Shannon, I appreciate the tag from you blog and the support. I was hungry all day yesterday... yet still feeling like I ate a crap-load of food! So far this morning, I feel pretty good. I think the English muffin last night w/ peanut butter got me through to the morning w/o feeling like I was dying this morning... LOL

Karen, I definitely need more water... I had 2 bottles of it yesterday... 1 after my workout, 1 for dinner. But I totally need to drink more... I think that will help a lot w/ the hungry sensation.
